WAYLES BROWNE – TRANSLATOR OF THE SCRIPT OF OUR FILMS, WIDELY-KNOWN LINGUIST

Wayles Browne, Prof. emeritus, Ithaca, New York, was born in Washington, D.C. He studied general and Slavic linguistics at Harvard and MIT, and taught Slavic languages and linguistics at Cornell University until his retirement in 2017.
While a graduate student he spent a year in Novi Sad and then several years at the Faculty of Philosophy at Zagreb University, working on research projects led by the well-known English-language specialist Prof. Rudolf Filipović. He received his Ph.D. degree from the same university. He has been collaborating with Prof. Aleksandar Durman for several decades, and either alone or with his wife Dr. Theresa Alt has translated several books and other texts on archaeology from Croatian to English.
